There will be a COVE meeting on Tuesday November 6, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. in the Executive Conference Room, 5th Floor, Gateway Building, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia, Maryland 21046.

Who We Are:
COVE
is an alliance of public and private civil rights organizations, community human relations, law enforcement, advocacy, religious and educational organizations in Maryland and the Washington,D.C. area.

What We Do:
The Coalition Opposed to Violence and Extremism (COVE), formed in 1979, pursues activities that oppose, resist and eliminate bigotry, prejudice, violence and extremism based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and disability. The organization is also committed to fostering an understanding and tolerance amongst diverse groups in the community.

Membership is open to any individual or organization which subscribes to the purpose, goals and philosophy of COVE.

Our goal is to foster peaceful coexistence among diverse groups in the community. in addition, COVE cooperates with local, state and national leadership to develop:

  • an awareness of the seriousness of hate crimes;
  • an effective response to hate crimes and violence;
  • support for the victim; and
  • an informational clearinghouse on issues related to hate group activity and incidents of violence and extremism.
Meetings:
COVE meets on the first Tuesday of each month (except July and August) at 9:30 a.m. at the Government Building, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive, Howard County Office of Human Rights, 2nd Floor Conference Room in Columbia, Maryland.

"in Germany they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."
